Empowering Inner-City Students: A Journey to Gordon Parks' Legacy in Paris-
Hello and welcome to the Gordon Parks Trailblazer Foundation GoFundMe page! For the past seven years, we have proudly partnered with A.R.I.S.E. Kansas African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensemble Inc, an organization dedicated to renewing interest in Spirituals through music and spoken word, educating people of all cultures about the significance of Spirituals from the underground railroad to the Civil Rights Movement. Our school, Gordon Parks Academy, is committed to cultivating STEM Leaders in Applied and Media Arts. Our mission is to empower our inner-city students and provide them with unique educational experiences that will impact the trajectory of their lives.
Our school, Gordon Parks Academy, is named after the legendary Gordon Parks, a renowned photographer, producer, and composer hailing from Ft. Scott, Kansas. We take immense pride in our association with this iconic Kansan, and our school's magnet theme revolves around audio production, video production, and photography.
This year, we have an incredible opportunity to take up to 10 deserving students to Paris, France, to retrace the life and legacy of Gordon Parks. This journey is not just a sightseeing tour but an immersive experience that will provide invaluable lessons about cultural diversity and the inspiring journey of Gordon Parks.
We have been extended an invitation by Professor Michael Cheers at the University of San Jose State University in San Jose, California, which has further motivated us to undertake this educational pilgrimage. The trip to Paris, France, will be a profound learning experience, allowing our students to delve deeper into the life and impact of Gordon Parks. During their trip, students will embark on a photography and documentary assignment, collaborating with other students. Their work will be featured in Professor Cheers' upcoming book, "I Needed Paris - Photography Inspired by Gordon Parks From His 1950-1952 Life Assignments," scheduled for publication in 2025. Additionally, members of A.R.I.S.E will showcase their talent by performing in Paris, France, at one of our selected locations.
To make this opportunity a reality, we are seeking your financial support. Each student's trip will cost approximately $3,500. Our fundraising goal is set at $40,000 to cover all necessary expenses.
Your generous contribution will not only financially support these aspiring young individuals but will also contribute to their personal growth, cultural understanding, and passion for arts and media. Every donation, regardless of size, is a significant step toward creating a lasting impact on their lives and future endeavors.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation for being a part of this incredible journey and for supporting the next generation of artists, creators, and leaders. Together, we can make a difference and create opportunities that will shape these young minds for a brighter tomorrow. Thank you for your invaluable support!
